The Supreme Court has allowed Waheeda Shah, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate to contest in the forthcoming elections.
Waheeda Shah was disqualified to contest for two years after she slapped an Assistant Presiding Officer (APO) during by-polls on Feb 25 in Tando Mohammad Khan.

While hearing the case on Friday, the SC terminated her disqualification and allowed her to take part in the general elections.

It may be mentioned that Waheeda Shah had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against her disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to the ECP verdict, Waheeda Shah, a candidate of PPP for the PS-53 constituency of Sindh Assembly was declared ineligible to contest elections for two years as she was found guilty of slapping a presiding officer during the by-elections last year.

Shah stated in her petition that as her appeal against the disqualification is pending in the Supreme Court so till the decision of her appeal ECP verdict should be suspended.

Hashmat Habib, the counsel for Waheeda Shah had filed the petition in the apex court stating that if suspension of ECP verdict would not be passed by the apex court, the right of his client would be demolished after the announcement of election schedule, further adding in his stance, he said that the people of her constituency will be deprived from its leader if she remains disqualified.

On November 4, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim had upheld the disqualification of Shah, a candidate who had slapped an election official during polling on Feb 25 in the by-election of the PS-53.

Her disqualification by the ECP had barred her from being elected as a member of an assembly for two years.
