LHC dismisses petition against caretaker PM, Punjab CM

By on Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Umar Atta Bandial started hearing of the case on Tuesday.
The counsel of the petitioner maintained the stance that the appointments of caretaker prime minister and caretaker chief minister of Punjab were illegal as the constitutional obligations were not upheld during the process.

The LHC Chief Justice in his remarks said that the caretaker PM and caretaker Punjab CM were appointed according to the constitution. Later, the court dismissed the petition.

It is worth mentioning here that the Election Commission of Pakistan had appointed caretaker PM Mir Hazar Khan Khoso after a joint parliamentary committee of the government and the opposition failed to reach a consensus over the matter while a joint parliamentary committee of the Punjab government and opposition parties in Punjab selected prominent journalist Najam Sethi as caretaker Punjab CM.
