MQM observes day of mourning over Karachi blast

By on Friday, April 26, 2013

Six people were killed after a powerful blast ripped through Nusrat Bhutto Colony on Thursday.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A shutter-down strike is being observed in most parts of the Sindh province following yesterday’s blast in Karachi that killed six MQM workers while injured 16 others.

In the wake of the strike call made by the coordination committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), all educational institutions, petrol pumps and business outlets were reportedly closed while roads wore a deserted look on Friday.

The attendance in government offices was also thin as employees could not reach their destinations because of non-availability of public transport.

The matriculation exams scheduled for today were also postponed in Karachi.

Several social, transporters, and trade & business groups confirmed full support for the strike soon after the appeal made by MQM.

The MQM chief strongly condemned the attack on its office. MQM chief Altaf Hussain said that militants were trying to keep his party away from polls.
