Pakistan’s minister says YouTube to be restored in caretaker govt tenure

By on Friday, April 12, 2013

Islamabad: Pakistan’s caretaker Information Minister on Thursday said that the YouTube, a video sharing website, will be restored in the country during the caretaker government’s tenure.
It is now almost eight months after the government blocked the video sharing website due to the presence of anti-Islam film mocking Prophet (PBUH). The website was restored three months back but was blocked within hours after it was learnt that the blasphemous content was still present on the website.
Speaking to media, the minister said that he had directed the concerned authorities to reopen the website as soon as possible.
“We are working to filter the blasphemous material but the ministry officials had told us that the filter required to sort out the blasphemous material was quite expensive,” he said.
Responding to a question regarding impartiality of the state media, Nizami said that he had directed the state-run media to remain unbiased and provide equal chances to all political parties to run their manifestos on the state television.
