Election tribunal disqualifies Asif Hashmi from polls

By on Tuesday, April 16, 2013

PPP leader Syed Asif Hashmi had served as Chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Election tribunal on Tuesday declared Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Syed Asif Hashmi ineligible for upcoming polls.

The Returning Officer had dismissed Hashmi s nomination papers for NA-118 on various charges levelled by two petitioners.

Wednesday is the last day to dispose off appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers by the election tribunals.

Final list of contesting candidates will be published on the very next day.

Pakistanis go to the polls on May 11 in a general election that should see power pass from a civilian government that has served a full term to another through the ballot box for the first time in the country s turbulent history.
