Muhammad Ali was appointed as SECP chairman on Dec 24, 2010.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court on Friday declared appointment of Muhammad Ali as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) illegal and unconstitutional.

The short order was announced by a two-member bench headed by Justice Jawad S. Khwaja.

The apex court directed the federal government to appoint new Chairman of the Commission as soon as possible.

Muhammad Ali’s appointment as SECP chairman was challenged in the court by a former officer of SECP, alleging that his appointment was made in violation of rules and regulations.
