Manzoor Wattoo resigns as PPP Punjab president

By on Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Wattoo is likely to announce his resignation formally in a press conference.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Manzoor Wattoo resigned as PPP s Punjab president over party’s failure to grab sufficient seats from the province in general elections.

Mazoor Wattoo has forwarded his resignation to party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

In the May 11 general elections, Wattoo lost NA-146 (Okara-IV) to Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Wattoo had won from the constituency in 2008 elections as an independent candidate after which he joined the PPP.

He was made PPP’s central Punjab president in October 2012. Wattoo also served as federal minister for Kashmir affairs during the 2008-2013 PPP-led coalition government.

Earlier on Monday, Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and PPPP’s senior vice president Yousaf Raza Gilani resigned from senior party position over defeat in May 11 polls.
