Musharraf's escape: Court orders legal action against IG police

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui heard the Musharraf escape case.


ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court on Tuesday ordered to take legal action against those who facilitated Musharraf in escape from the courtroom.

Earlier‚ Secretary Interior Javed Iqbal appeared before the court.

He told court that IG Islamabad is officer of grade-21 and only Prime Minister can take action against him, adding that the matter has been referred to the Ministry of Law & Justice for its opinion.

On this, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that Prime Minister or a secretary has no right to seek opinion on court's orders.

He observed that ICT police comes under Ministry of Interior, thus, action should taken against IG police according to law.

Later, the case hearing was adjourned for a week.

Former military ruler Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s escaped from the court premises on April 18 after the request for extension of protective bail granted to him in the judges detention case was rejected.
