SC Wednesday canceled the notification allowing lifetime security to Raja Ashraf and Rehman Malik.
ISLAMABAD (Online): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has cancelled the notification regarding provision of lifetime security for former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and former interior minister Rehman Malik.
The five-member larger Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry reviewed the suo motu case, during which controller general Atif Usman told the Court that this ‘lifetime security facility’ for ‘these two VIPs’ would incur an annual of Rs 290,000,000 to National exchequer.
The Chief Justice asked Rehman Malik to deliberate what exact dangers were being faced by him, and why only he requires security?
The court reminded that under article 9 State was responsible for protection of life and property of every citizen.
Noting that this notification had been issued without reference to any rules and regulations whatsoever, the Court has summoned secretary interior, at today, Thursday’s hearing with all relevant records.
