The Supreme Court on Monday resumed the hearing of the treason case against Pervez Musharraf.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Counsel of former president Pervez Musharraf argued that army intervention is justified when there is a threat to the national security.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, heard a set of petitions seeking the initiation of a treason case against the former military ruler Pervez Musharaf.
In his arguments, Musarraf’s counsel told court that army is a power in developing countries, thus, it can’t be stopped with Article 6 as its main priority is to save the country.
Justice Khwaja remarked that petitioners have complained that their rights were violated when Pervez Musharraf subverted the constitution.
On this, Ahmed Raza Kasuri emphasized that constitution was put on hold only for 12 days.
Justice Khwaja remarked either it was for 12 seconds, but fundamental rights were violated.
Later the case hearing was adjourned till tomorrow (Tuesday).
