By on Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Protests were held against loadshedding in different cities including Peshawar, Lahore and Multan.

LAHORE (Online) - Masses irked, with their long standing patience finally ebbing out of their control, resorted to immense and vociferous protests on the streets of Punjab and KPK alike.

Masses scorched with intense heat, and victimized by heart- wrenching wailed out their strong protests against electricity which failed to run for 20 hours, each day, while equally damaging businesses and disturbing people’s peace of mind.

Screaming, sloganeering masses also protested outside the residence of PML-N president Mian Nawaz Sharif , whence they raised slogans against the caretaker setup , while some ‘lively youth’ also dived in canal to record, register their (cooling , breezy and wet) protest.

Protests were also held in Multan’s Chowk No.9, Bahawalnagar’s district bar association, and KPK’s Peshawar.

The skyrocketing load shedding, with 16 hours in urban areas and upto 22 hours in rural areas has also increased paucity of water, making things worse for infants and children also.

Officials of water and power have put the electricity production at 11260 MWs, against a demand of 15000MWs, with an overall shortfall of 3,740 MWs. In Lahore the demand vs supply capacity is 2700MWs vs 1600MWs, making a shortfall of 1100MWs.

Similarly in KPK this ratio of demand vs supply falls at 2800MWs vs an available supply of 1400MWs.
