Nawaz vows to address energy crisis on war footing

PML-N has started working on the strategy to overcome the ongoing energy crisis in the country.


LAHORE (Dunya News) - A high level meeting headed by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif held in Jati Umra on Tuesday to discuss different ways to overcome power crisis in the country.

Various short and medium term measures were discussed to minimize load shedding.

The meeting also discussed investment avenues to increase electricity generation in the country.

It was decided during the meeting that a campaign would be launched for the recovery of the arrears of electricity.

Later‚ the Water and Power Minister‚ Dr Musaddiq Malik called on PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif and presented various proposals for the early solution of power crisis.

Talking to media after the meeting, Musaddiq Malik held National Power and Purchase Company responsible for the energy crisis.

According to NEPRA rules, power theft worth Rs 135 billion was seen in the country while according international standard electricity worth Rs 215 billion was being stolen.

Discussing the present situation during the meeting, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said that a war footing strategy was needed to overcome the energy crisis while immediate measures would be adopted to end Rs 500 billion circular debt.
