Punjab CM orders judicial inquiry over Sarbajit's death

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi has ordered judicial inquiry into the demise of Indian spy Sarabjit Singh.

The chief minister directed to examine all factors involved in the death of the Indian prisoner.

Sarabjit Singh was hospitalized on Friday April 26 following injuries sustained during a scuffle with fellow inmates in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The Foreign Office said that government of Pakistan had been providing all assistance to the family of Sarabjit Singh as well as to the Indian authorities since the occurrence of this unfortunate incident.

The government will continue to facilitate for the early completion of all formalities and hand over the mortal remains of the prisoner to the Indian High Commission at the earliest possible, it added.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanded "justice" from Pakistan.

Indian foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin called for Pakistan to conduct a probe into the assault on Sarabjit Singh.

Singh was arrested in 1990 and later found guilty of spying and involvement in deadly bomb blasts in Pakistani cities.
