Security forces killed at least 17 persons during an operation in Khurram region on Thursday.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - At least 17 militants were killed and several others injured when Pakistani jets bombed militant hideouts in the Kurram tribal region during a security forces operation on Thursday.

According to sources, the militants were killed when four insurgent hideouts were destroyed in the action in central Kurram s Tabay area. Moreover, several militants were also injured, official sources told Dunya News.

A military operation has been ongoing in central Kurram for past three weeks. Reportedly, at least 100 militants have been killed and several insurgent hideouts have been destroyed during this time.

Kurram, which is close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, is one of the seven regions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), governed by tribal laws. An extremist insurgency led by the Pakistani Taliban plagues the region while the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda, Taliban and several other armed organisations.
